It’s time for another legend! This time we cross the river from Prague Castle and bury ourselves in the twisted maze of Old Town. Celetná Street is probably one of the most famous streets in this part of old town because of the many people that walked it. Not only was it on the Royal Route for the kings’ walks to the castle, but it was also home to Kafka, as well as visited frequently by Mozart who stayed in a hotel there. But our story does not concern any of these people, but rather the tortured souls of a priest, and prostitute. As the legend goes, a priest was walking down Celetná when he was unexpectedly flashed by a passing prostitute. As you can imagine, the priest’s good catholic soul didn’t appreciate this (maybe a modern day English stag party would think differently). So the priest brutally struck the prositute with his crucifix, killing her instantly. Shocked by what he’d just done, the priest also died on the spot. Maybe from a heart attack… or maybe something more sinister? Shocked by what he’d just done, the priest also died on the spot. It is now said that at the witching hour of midnight you may see the ghosts of both of them reenacting their vicious charade. Two tortured souls, locked together in shock in hatred for all of eternity, pretty heavy stuff!
