Pet Christmas: how not to spend it at the vet!

The Christmas holidays are a time of abundance. Both for us and for our four-legged pets. We wouldnt spoil them, would we? But what looks like a well-intentioned treat can go wrong and instead of relaxing watching TV, youll be sitting in the vets waiting room. The animals love us and most of all they trust us. All the treats were indulging in now and unlike us, they dont know that some of them are bad for them. And you may have forgotten what your pets should skip in their diet. A little recap is in order. Keep the candy chocolate under control At Christmas, sweets are at every turn in most households. There are candies on trays, chocolate figurines on the tree, and Christmas on the tables. Dogs in particular are very tempted by all of this and love to have a taste at the drop of a hat. Some breeders even offer them sweets themselves. But its not good. A lot of apartment dogs are overweight to obese and every additional calorie bomb will only harm them. The worst is when the treat contains chocolate. This affects proper pancreatic function in dogs and can lead to heart rhythm problems. In larger quantities, it is toxic. It can even kill dogs. This is a risk especially in smaller breeds. Do not salt or fry Sharing a fried steak or carp with your dog is not ideal. This method of preparation puts a lot of strain on the pancreas. Eating large quantities of such food can also end up causing inflammation. Highly spicy food can cause kidney problems or even brain damage. Giving raw egg whites to dogs is a myth Many breeders have succumbed to the myth that a dog will have a more beautiful and better quality coat if they give it raw egg whites. And there are plenty of those, like leftovers after baking cookies or another Christmas cake between the holidays. Definitely dont pour them in the dogs bowl. Raw egg whites themselves are unsuitable for dogs because they contain the substance avidin, which causes a loss of vitamin B in the dogs body, advises Adéla Palacká, nutritionist at Fitmin. According to her, the solution is heat treatment, but it is necessary to consider the amount of protein in relation to the weight and size of the dog breed. Not even milk for the cats at Christmas Definitely dont be inspired by watching Cinderella giving milk to her cat at Christmas. Cats cant digest lactose. Although they like the milk, it often gives them severe diarrhoea as a result. The post Pet Christmas: how not to spend it at the vet! first appeared on WeAreCrafting.com.
